Cassette Beasts Bootleg Monsters: Everything You Need to Know

By Mia Lopez

Cassette Beasts is an evolution of the Monster Catcher formula with major improvements in several areas. If you are looking for a game to scratch that Pokemon itch while offering more of a challenge, and something different this game is for you.

In this guide, I will go over everything you need to know about Bootleg Monsters, in Cassette Beasts. These are alternative variants of the original monster.

They come in all possible types, even the same type as the original. These can be considered the shiny Pokémon in this world with the caveat that the typing is likely shifted.

If playing this game you are having feelings of nostalgia, check out our guide on the best team for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. When it comes to Pokemon these games are still considered the best remakes made so far.

Cassette Beasts: General Information About Bootleg Monsters

First of all, when it comes to Bootleg Monsters the game gives you one free bootleg. Once you unlock the west side of Harbour Town, go up to the top right house. Talk to the guy and you will get your bootleg monster.

Unfortunately, you cannot forcefully reset the Bootleg Monster, since it is tied to your save file. If you do not like the Bootleg Monster you are given, you must restart the game from the beginning.

All monsters (Bootlegs and normal variants) can be recaught if you accidentally kill them. This includes rare encounters like Averevoir, Glaistain, and Miss Mimic. But always save before battle, and remove the autosave feature, just to be on the safe side when hunting.

Bootleg Monsters have the same moveset as the original with access to some, mainly offensive moves of that type. Growth is identical, in terms of leveling experience, stats, and sticker slots compared to their normal variants.

Bootleg Monsters will always have their name displayed in red letters, and the coloring of the spite will have differences. This applies to the rogue fusion as well when you fight them.

The natural spawn rates of these Bootleg Monsters are rare but players will still be able to find them quite easily. When you eventually find them, you can tell them apart since they have a glitchy static white flash, but they maintain their normal overworld sprite colors.

Lastly, and most importantly when you get a Bootleg Monster, the moves that are specific to one element are swapped to their matching counterparts. Also, some stickers are upgraded to uncommon or rare types.

Cassette Beasts: Ritual Candle Method

The Ritual Candle method is a way players use to force a Bootleg Monster to appear when fighting a rogue fusion. This method includes normal rogue fusions, swarm rogue fusions, and unstable rogue fusions.

Using the Ritual Candle will guarantee that the type or monster or both from the burned tape will appear in the Rogue Fusion. The next “wild” rogue fusion (normal, swarm, or unstable) will have a Bootleg Monster.

Understandably, this is an annoying method because of the typing of the fusions, and the complications that this can have, but you are guaranteed to get a Bootleg Monster this way.

So you will have to weigh the pros and the cons, on whether or not you will want to use it. I also highly recommend making a backup save, by copying the save file. This method is unlocked once you beat all the 12 Ranger Captains.

  • Each candle costs 50 fused materials for a single use.
  • The Tape you wish to burn to spawn a Bootleg Monster.

Since you will be burning a tape for the Candle Ritual be sure to have at least one extra caught from the wild before attempting this. The burnt tape will be lost once you burn it in the ritual.

Final Thoughts

In any monster-catching game, the rare encounters that are hard to find always entice a large group of players. Most of them want them because they look cool while others want them to be completionists.

No matter which side you find yourself on, Bootleg Monsters will be a fun adventure to go out and search for. Especially now that you have everything you need to know in the palm of your hand about Bootleg Monsters, in Cassette Beasts.
